Venture to the Interior

Edited compilation from an interactive DVD

“Venture to the Interior” is an interactive project that explores the idea of museum and the history of collecting with the example of the Natural History Museum of Berlin. With its particular history this museum offers a precise and allusive vantage point for this reflection. During the time of the cold war the museum did not go through the modernization process as most other natural history museums and preserved therefore the status of the museum as it was in the nineteenth century, overlaid with the traces of the second world war that left one of the wings of the museum in ruins. In this sense the museum is a taxidermy of its own species, providing us a tangible and engaging insight into the frenzy of collecting, preserving and the making of knowledge.
